My name is Dave Matterness, Camp Ranger here at Camp Bashore. I am known by most Scouts and Scouters as Ranger Dave. First name: Ranger, Last name: Dave (as dubbed by some of the staff). My reasons and purpose for posting this website are many. There are the obvious ones, like camp promotion, and resources for leaders. One of the biggest reasons is to keep everyone connected to what is going on around camp in the "off-season" that is, the months following and leading up to the summer season. This fall I will celebrate my 9th anniversary of becoming a Camp Ranger. When I think about and also look back at all the pictures it amazes me how much has changed and been accomplished in that short time. Old buildings were renovated or were demolished with new ones taking their place. Some facilities received major renovations, campsites and program areas were expanded and improved. When I began this job, I worked with the Council, Properties Committee and Camping Committee to gain a clear vision of what improvements needed to be made. Of course, none of this work was accomplished solely by myself. I had a small army of contractors, leaders, Scouts and staff who also share that vision. So to every one of my friends who helped bring about those changes, I salute you. We're not finished yet, though. There are many more projects and upgrades that need to be done to keep our camp on the "cutting edge" and ahead of the others.
